What to Expect

It is completely natural to feel anxious, but rest assured you are in great hands with our highly skilled team. We will make every effort to make sure you are comfortable throughout your journey here at SFV Oral Surgery & Implant Center.

Check In and Registration

When you arrive, our friendly front desk staff will greet you and assist with check-in. Please bring your ID, insurance card, a list of all your medications, and, if available, the referral sheet from your provider. This will ensure a smooth and efficient visit.

Completed Registration Forms: If you've finished your registration form before your appointment, our friendly staff will collect it during check-in.

Online Forms: You can also conveniently complete your forms online through our patient portal at any time.

On-Site Registration: Alternatively, you can fill out your registration forms at check-in. Please arrive 20-30 minutes early to ensure you have enough time to complete them.

In our reception area, your friends and family can enjoy complimentary coffee, cookies, and other refreshments. When you’re ready, one of our friendly assistants will guide you to a comfortable and relaxing consultation room.

Consultation

During your consultation, we'll thoroughly review your medical history, discuss the planned procedure, and explore alternative treatment options. Dr. Patel will discuss some of the anesthesia and sedation options available to you, ensuring your comfort and safety during the procedure. Our team will also answer any questions you may have at this time.

We will obtain and review any recent X-rays provided by your referring provider. If additional X-rays are necessary, we use our advanced cone beam CT scanner (CBCT), which delivers the highest quality 3D images for precise diagnostics and treatment planning.

(Snippet) Did you Know? Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) scans can expose patients to significantly less radiation than conventional CT scans. For maxillofacial exposure, CBCT scans can expose patients to 10 times less radiation than conventional CT scans.

Discussion with Treatment Coordinator

Our treatment coordinators will contact your insurance provider before your appointment to obtain an estimate and ensure you receive the most affordable treatment options. We are in-network with most insurance providers to maximize your benefits. They will explain everything to you in a straightforward and easy to understand matter and answer any questions you may have.

Thanks to our treatment coordinators who manage insurance calls on your behalf, many patients have the opportunity to complete their procedure on the same day as their consultation if they choose to do so.

If you choose to schedule your procedure for a later date, our treatment coordinators will provide you with detailed pre-operative instructions before the day of your surgery.

Procedure

You will then be taken to our surgical suite where you will be greeted by our friendly and highly skilled surgical staff.

Our surgical assistants are expertly trained in basic life support and have completed extensive anesthetic and airway management training. They also participate in monthly anesthesia emergency simulation drills to ensure top-notch care and preparedness.

Patients usually have two anesthesia options when they decide to opt for surgery:

   i.      Local Anesthesia: Local anesthesia numbs a specific area of your mouth, ensuring you don't feel pain during the dental procedure. While you may feel slight pressure, Dr. Patel will ensure your comfort throughout the process.

ii.      IV Sedation: Dr. Patel and his highly skilled surgical team will quickly place an IV to safely administer anesthetic medication. You will be comfortably sedated before the procedure begins and you can expect a painless experience that will seem like it lasted just a moment.

You will also be sent home with written instructions and a direct phone number for you to reach Dr. Patel in case you have any urgent needs during your recovery.

After your procedure and once you are fully recovered, your friends and family will be able to join you. Our compassionate surgical staff will provide clear post-operative instructions to help you with a fast recovery. You will also be sent home with written instructions and a direct phone number for you to reach Dr. Patel in case you have any urgent needs during your recovery.

 Follow Up

You can typically expect a follow-up appointment with our office 1-2 weeks after your surgery. If you need an earlier appointment, simply call our office, and we can often accommodate you the same day.
